• If for any reason, at any time in the dog’s life, you can no longer care for them, we require that the dog come back to us so that we may find them another home
  • All potential adopters must be over 21
  • Have a vet reference or references and please call your vet and let them know that a rep from East Coast Gentle Giants Rescue will call them to ask questions about your pets’ current/previous medical history with them. Without this we will not process your application
  • Submit to a home check and follow up
  • Renter/s MUST provide the name of their landlord, Management Company and phone number.  You will be required to show proof in your lease that you have paid the necessary pet deposit prior to adoption.
  • States we adopt out to are as follows: Maryland, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts.  We will also adopt to Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan as we have representatives in these states that are able to conduct home visits
  • Fenced in yards are requirements for adopting from East Coast Gentle Giants Rescue. Some dogs are escape artists!!! Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis but mostly only to families with prior verified breed experience
  • These are indoor dogs and must be intended as indoor pets.  Outdoors only for exercise and potty
  • Before you adopt a Gentle Giant or Bully Breed from East Coast Gentle Giants Rescue you must purchase a crate and show proof (the crate must be adequate for the size of the dog you are adopting).  You must also show proof of purchased obedience lessons for you and your new dog with a start date.  We will verify if necessary. We believe in crate training and use it with all our dogs whether personal or fosters. Not all dogs will require obedience training.  This will also be discussed on a case by case basis
  • If you do not live in the immediate area where the dog is being fostered and they are not with representative during the home visit, you are required to make the drive to meet the  dog you potentially wish to adopt. Costs of gas etc. are the responsibility of the adopters and NOT deductible from the adoption fee. We do NOT ship or transport our dogs.
  • We reserve the right to refuse anyone for any of the reasons above or for any previously unknown reason/s which may come to our attention during the adoption process.
  • N.C. is the worst state in the U.S. when it comes to dog fighting.  We care a great deal about our dogs and will refuse an application if it is not in the best interest of our dogs
  • Some dogs have their ears cropped before they arrive and some do not. We do not allow anyone who adopts our American Bulldogs, Cane Corso, Great Dane, Neapolitan Mastiff, Presa Canario or other Bully breeds to crop their ears. It will cancel the adoption contract and we will reclaim the dog at all costs. Only in the best interest and/or medically necessary will it be allowed
  • Our adoption contracts change and are altered to benefit the dogs to keep them safe. We are a rescue and the dogs safety is our priority. We are not obligated to discuss changes and provisions in the contract with adopters.
