East Coast Gentle Giants Rescue, Inc is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization group that is 100% VOLUNTEER run with NO PAID employees dedicated to taking in dogs that have been abused and neglected and occasionally we take in owner surrenders. Our dogs are temperament tested. If for any reason they do not pass the temperament test, they will not be taken into rescue. There are specific requirements to surrender a dog in addition to up-to-date medical. We are here to ensure that more dogs do not end up in shelters and get euthanized, which is why all of our rescue dogs are spayed and neutered before an adoption is complete. There are instances where puppies under 6 months are placed before being altered but in these cases we require an additional deposit, which is returned to the owners upon proof of spay or neuter within 30 days of the puppy turning 6 months old. If we do not get written and oral verification from your veterinarian that the spay/neuter surgery has been done, the deposit will be forfeited and we will come to reclaim our rescue.
Please keep in mind that this is a rescue. We very rarely get dogs that are the model citizen type. Some of the dogs have come from neglectful situations, owners who could not handle the necessities for the breed, shelters and other rescue organizations. In most cases we do NOT have a complete history on the dog, nor do we claim to. If you are looking for a puppy most of the time we will not be able to help you. Puppies are a rarity in rescue, we MIGHT get a puppy under 6 months once or twice a year, if that. If you are looking for a puppy, please look elsewhere.
We are a local group of caring and dedicated individuals who have taken the sole responsibility to get abused and neglected dogs out of bad situations, back to health and placed with a good family to grow old with. All of our dogs vet care, supplies, food etc. is paid out of pocket by the founder of the rescue. Adoption fees pay for our expenses and help us pay shelter pull fees, cherry eye/entropian surgeries, heart worm treatments, spay and neuters, transports, food, supplies, heart worm and flea and tick control for all of our rescue dogs.
A lot of our rescue dogs are with us for more then 6 months before they are adopted. This is mostly because they go through extensive training due to fear of people (men or women), possible separation anxiety, a fear of dogs, cars etc.
Our biggest priority is to place our dogs in a home where they will remain for the rest of their lives. Please do not be discouraged if you do not get approved for a certain dog you may like, sometimes their needs might not fit your families needs. As hard as we try to place our dogs into the best homes, we know that sometimes life gets hard, this is why we will always take any of the dogs back that we place. Additionally, we require they be returned to us if the adoptive family is no longer able to care for them.
At this time we take owner surrenders on a case by case basis only. Because dogs that are in Municipal Shelters, Animal Control and Kill Shelters are our priority, we need to save our funding to be able to help these dogs first and foremost.
Please be advised that our adoption fees cover only what has been administered to the dog medically. We are not here to make a profit, but our adoption fees need to cover our expenses otherwise we would not be able to take in our next rescue.
Please do not ask if our adoption fees are negotiable, they are NOT. If you cannot afford the adoption fee for a dog that has been fully vetted, we will not adopt the dog out to you. Once in a while a dog that has come into rescue already vetted will have a reduced adoption fee.
If you CANNOT keep a dog that you have adopted from us in the past you are REQUIRED to return the dog to our rescue organization.
